What Causes Burnout

Corporations have become so advanced that they have reduced certain things down to a science, and worker productivity is a major part of that. The limitations of human beings are widely known at this point, and that means that you can’t get very far if you don’t recognize the inevitable onset of burnout. Everyone can get burnt out if they work for too long, but there are a lot of other causes of this as well that can get in your way if you are not extremely careful.

Perhaps the biggest singular cause of burnout is being chronically overworked. Employees are under a lot of pressure these days, and suffice it to say that their workloads are not all that practical if you think about it. Looking at these workloads through an objective lens will reveal how inherently unsustainable they can be, and that has led to corporate wellness programs becoming a core component of corporate culture. Another major thing that can cause burnout is a lack of appreciation from superiors, since this can make one feel like none of the work that they are doing is being valued as much as it should.

Middle management can often be really harsh with employees, and this can give them the impression that they are underperforming even when they are getting the right amount of work done. A bit of encouragement can go a long way, and it can reduce the chances of burnout significantly. Performance evaluations can make or break an employee, so it’s really important to not be excessively negative when it’s time to do them. It’s not surprising that most employees feel burned out after they get their evaluations from superiors.
