The recent craze of trying to do everything with a DIY approach has started to take the world by storm, but we feel like there are some limits to how frequently such a philosophy can end up being applied once all has been said and is now out of the way. While there are definitely a lot of things that you can use at home in place of specialized items that are marketed to you rather heavily despite being rebranded forms of common products that are being offered at a shocking markup, this does not necessarily mean that everything you can get your hands on would end up fitting the bill.
A really great example of this that we tend to keep in mind involves using dish soap such as Dawn in a carpet cleaner. The reason behind this is that any carpet cleaning service that you contact will tell you that trying to use Dawn in a carpet cleaner is perhaps the single worst thing that you can ever do for yourself because of the fact that it would make your carpet get dirtier at a monumentally faster rate than might have been the case otherwise.
It is never recommended to use Dawn or any other liquid soap substance in a carpet cleaner. They can clean some of the stains off for sure, but they can also be a nightmare to rinse out properly. You would need to keep rinsing time and time again in order to get the dirt off and that’s obviously not ideal regardless of what perspective you might be looking at it from. Use hot steam instead because it’s just a lot better.
